The Story: This piece was created for ‘Where We Roam: A Show for Public Lands’, featured at NoBo Bus Stop Gallery in Boulder, CO. Beneath the shadow of Mt. Princeton in Buena Vista, CO, where I lived during my first year in Colorado, the faith of my youth slowly crumbled like chalk in my palm. And even still, there was light. May we hope for it always!
This one is all about gritty texture - a plea to rub sand between your fingers and turn your face towards sunshine, even when the world is crumbling. She’s defiant and a bit cheeky, welcoming joy as it bubbles up through hot cracks in granite. She welcomes everything, all at once - darkness, light, dirty hands, soft grasses, the ebbs and flow as water shapes earth and back again.

featuring fabric made with local kaolinite (the soft, white clay material that gives the Chalk Cliffs their name)
